Keeping Snow Off Of Floormats
To some extent, you should not worry if you get snow on the floormats that are in your car. After all, they are there so that you do not get snow, mud, and water in the car itself. The problem is that getting it on the mats can be nearly as bad as getting it anywhere else in the car. You need to take steps to keep this from happening. If you do not, there could be a number of consequences, such as the three that are discussed below.
First, the mats could mold. The snow will easily come in on your boots and shoes while it is cold because it will stick. When you get in the car, though, it will melt and soak the mat. This water will be left sitting in the car after you get out. This creates a perfect environment for mold to grow in the fabric. This will make the car much less attractive, and it will look dirty all of the time. It could even make the car have a very distinct oder. In the worst situations, the car could become unhealthy because it is not good to keep breathing in mold particles.
You will also find that the snow from the floormats can cause the inside of the windshield to become icy. This is because the snow will melt, forming water, and it will rise into the air as the car heats up. This precipitation will create a thin coating of moisture on the glass. You may see it, but it may be so thin that you will not. When you get out and the car cools down, the moisture will not sink back down again. Instead, it will just freeze right where it is. You will need to scrape it off in the morning when you come out to the car.
Finally, you may discover that the melted snow will get your shoes and even the bottoms of your pants wet. The mats will never full dry out because they will be in a contained environment. The water will have no way to escape from the car, so the mats will be perpetually wet. You will step into this each time that you drive. This can be very frustrating when the mats are wet months after the winter is over.
In many cases, it will be impossible to keep snow from getting in the car. You just cannot expect to knock it all off of your boots before you get in. You will have little control over what your passengers do, so they could track it in as well. You need to take the floormats out on occasion so that they can dry properly.
